Green News
Welcome to Eco-Erek, a place to share eco-ideas! I’m 9 years old and I LOVE to recycle. I hope you do to. Helping to save Planet Earth’s resources is important to me.
I like to read about ways that we humans can be resourceful with our stuff. Not everything can and should get thrown in the landfill. There is only so much room for all of our garbage! I don’t like when I see things that we throw away, especially plastic, end up in our oceans and rivers and trees. Yuck!
Have a look around my site and help me, help our planet!
● 2010 Denim Drive to begin on Earth Day, April 22nd. (Happy Birthday Breanna!)
● Bring denim to various locations listed.
● Keep out of local landfill. Yay!
● Try to Reuse, Reduce, or Recycle ONE thing a day.

Denim Drive 2010
Happy Spring Northwest Ohio!
Current Count
as of Aug 18th is
4,076 items.
That’s enough to insulate
8
homes.
Let’s clean out our closets after this long winter! It’s time to bring us your old, holey, torn, stained, too-small or too-big denim items in any color. The donated denim will be shredded down into cotton fibers and re-manufactured into housing insulation to benefit comunities in need. In the past, the denim insulation has gone to Habitat for Humanity to help communities devistated by Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf Coast region. For more information on what happens to the denim-you can always look at the process more in depth at www.cottonfrombluetogreen.org. (Erek’s Drive has been approved by COTTON. FROM BLUE TO GREEN. ® for 2010)
My favorite part about this project is that all the donated denim will stay out of our local Northwest Ohio Landfills!
I also had the opportunity to be a part of setting the Guinness World Record for “Largest Collection of Clothing to Recycle” in 2009. It was so awesome and so much FUN! I collected 1,684 items last year, and my goal this year is 6,000! Enough to insulate 12 Habitat homes.
I need your help! If your organization, company or school would like to hold a denim drive in conjunction with me in the spring of 2010, please contact us at info@ecoerek.org. We will coordinate the collection of denim from your drives by June 30th.
We thank our shipping and storage sponsor, First Solar, for taking on the monumental task of shipping ALL of the denim collected to the destination in Arizona. Denim is pretty heavy in large quantities.
Hats off to Starr Elementary for donating 266 items!
